Just for Fun Watercolors and Calligraphy

This post is a just for fun one to give you ideas for doing a craft with a child, teen or friend in your life.  Sometimes all we need is a good idea to give us the push to make a happy memory together with someone you love.  The added benefit is that the end product can be gifted to someone who needs a little extra love.  Have fun!

This is the most complete list of watercolor ideas for kids (and their moms and grandmas!) that I could find. I sent watercolors to a grandson for his birthday last week and started looking for ideas for his mom so she could help him use the new paints.  Came across this watercolor ideas list from www.howweelearn.com and knew I’d hit the jackpot.  With Valentines coming up, the littles and bigger ones in your life might enjoy making some pretty cards with some of these techniques.

After the watercolor list is another fun card idea using calligraphy that perhaps could be combined with watercolors to make an outstanding card to share love at Valentines.  Be sure to scroll down and check it out.  This one is for older kids and adults and requires a two tipped flare pen commonly available.

Hey all! I’m Amanda from Bugaboo Bear Designs. Hand lettering has become much more than just words on a page. Adding some unique techniques to your letters not only adds visual interest but it’s fun too! Tombow Brush Pens make these techniques so easy. So grab your pens and let’s get started!

TECHNIQUE ONE: Confetti

The confetti technique is created by adding dots to your letters. You can achieve the bets effect by using a darker color for your confetti. I like to use two different colors in the same color family.

Letter your word in your lighter color. Then use the bullet tip of your darker color to add the dots. I like to add the confetti to the bottoms of my letters. But you can definitely add them to the top too! So easy! Just make sure to stay in the lines!

TECHNIQUE TWO: Palette-less Blending

Tombow Brush Pens are perfect for creating a beautiful ombre effect! They make blending so easy. To create this magical effect, you’ll need two different colors, one light and one dark.

First, letter your word in the light color.

Next, add a bit of your darker color to the top of each letter.

Now go back with your lighter color and pull down a bit of the darker color for each letter. Inch lower and lower to smooth out the color. And voila! You have created a beautiful blended ombre! Also, try adding the darker color at the bottom and blend from the bottom up. Want another reason as to why Tombow Brush Pens are awesome? They are self cleaning! Rub your lighter color on paper until it goes back to its original color.

TECHNIQUE THREE: 3-D Letters/Shadows

Create a fun 3-D effect with two different colors. Here I’m using a light blue and a darker blue for the shadows.

First, letter your word in the light color.

Use the bullet tip of the darker color to add the shadows. Now you’re probably wondering well, where do I add the shadows? Here’s the rule of thumb I use: shadows go on the right side of all the lines in your letters. It’s so easy once you get the hang of it!

I hope one you have fun adding these unique techniques to your lettering! Play around with different colors and put your own spin on them!
