Overcoming Overwhelm 1

Things get pretty hectic this time of year.  Here is a hint for getting out of overwhelm.  SMILE.

I remind myself to smile at someone while running errands.  I smile while talking to customer service on the phone.  I smile when giving my husband a snack.  I’m working on smiling at the computer when editing.

Then I say to myself,  “I am so blessed that I get to _______________.” And fill in the blank with something I am genuinely glad I get to do.

For instance, I’m very thankful I am able to make the food which will make the holiday more special for my family and friends and the stranger coming to dinner.

Being grateful for the privilege of doing what I’m doing right now  gives me peace and joy.  It puts me in a place where I can receive even more good things.  It clears my mind of grumbling and negativity and opens my thinking to positive ideas.  And it pleases God.

This idea for changing my attitude in the midst of stress is from Davina Fear  whose wise written advice has often challenged me to change.
